This 654-sq.-ft. accessory dwelling unit (ADU), built on the slab-on-grade foundation of a demolished garage, serves as a guest suite and occasional home office. A new 600-sq.-ft. garage was constructed, with residential quarters above that include a living area, an eat-in kitchen, a bathroom, and a private sleeping space.
Vaulted ceilings with exposed rafters add a sense of openness, while the wood-clad interior brings warmth and texture. Reclaimed antique windows and shutters, along with trim and soffit details, echo the charm of the original 1939 home. The interior features meticulous craftsmanship, with crisp tongue-and-groove walls and exposed beams.
A rear stairway extends the existing footprint, leading to a single-level 205-sq.-ft. garden house and potting shed that mirrors the architectural style of the main house. Furnished with the owner’s thoughtfully collected antiques, the spaces balance nostalgic charm with clean, structured design and an understated material palette. As the surrounding vegetation matures, the structure will settle into its garden setting.
